About this tour
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, clear customs and immigration, then meet your company representative for a warm welcome. After a short briefing about the safari, you will be transferred to your hotel for check in. Relax and enjoy dinner at the hotel while preparing for the adventures ahead. Meal Plan: Dinner
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park for Afternoon Game Drive & Lake Ihema Boat Trip
After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park (2–3 hour scenic drive). Enjoy views of rolling hills, farmland, and local villages along the way. Upon arrival, embark on a short game drive, spotting zebras, impalas, waterbucks, and if lucky, giraffes. Check into your lodge for lunch, then take a boat trip on Lake Ihema. Watch hippos wallowing in the water, crocodiles basking on the banks, and elephants or buffalo drinking at the shore. Bird lovers will delight in kingfishers, herons, and African fish eagles soaring above the lake. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight under the African night sky. Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park
Begin the day at 6:00 AM with an early morning game drive to catch the wildlife at their most active. Search for elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes, and multiple antelope species. Akagera is also home to over 500 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your wildlife safari. In the afternoon, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park via Kigali Genocide Memorial
After breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park, stopping at the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and the events of 1994. Continue through Rwanda’s rolling hills and scenic countryside to Musanze. Check into your lodge, enjoy lunch, and spend the afternoon at leisure.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Tour
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. Trek into the forest in search of endangered mountain gorillas this can take 2–6 hours depending on their location. Spend up to one hour observing the gorillas, capturing unforgettable photos and witnessing their natural behaviors. After trekking, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a cultural tour of local villages, meeting communities and learning about Rwandan traditions, crafts, and daily life. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking. These lively primates are found in bamboo forests, and the trek is less strenuous than gorilla trekking but equally rewarding. After trekking, enjoy lunch and then transfer to Lake Kivu, a stunning freshwater lake on Rwanda’s western border. Check into your lodge and spend the evening relaxing by the lakeshore.

Day 7: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park with a Boat Trip in Kibuye
Drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, enjoying spectacular views of Lake Kivu and the Congo side along the way. Stop at Kibuye for a boat trip, exploring islands and spotting diverse birdlife. Continue to your lodge for lunch and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Day 8: Chimpanzee Trekking and Tea Plantation
Tour Start the day with early breakfast and a cup of African coffee, then transfer to Nyungwe headquarters for a chimpanzee trekking briefing. Trek through the forest in search of chimps, spending up to one hour observing them in their natural habitat. After trekking, enjoy lunch, then visit the Gisakura tea plantations, learning how tea is grown, harvested, and processed. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Waterfall Hike and Canopy Walk
After breakfast, hike through Nyungwe Forest to explore several waterfalls, enjoying the cool forest air and spotting primates and birds along the way. Return for lunch, then experience the 90-meter canopy walk, suspended high above the forest, offering panoramic views of Nyungwe’s rainforest and a chance to spot wildlife from above. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali and King’s Palace Visit
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Kigali. En route, visit the King's Palace Museum to learn about Rwandan royal history and traditional leadership. Enjoy lunch along the way, then continue to Kigali for optional shopping before being dropped at the Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
