2-Day Lake Mburo Safari Itinerary – Uganda’s Compact Wildlife Adventure

Day 1: Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park Game Drive & Boat Cruise

Your safari begins early, with a 5:30 a.m. pickup from your hotel in Kampala. The 253 km journey to Lake Mburo National Park takes about 4 hours, allowing you to arrive by 8:30 a.m. for a morning game drive. This 3–4-hour drive through the park’s scenic landscape offers excellent chances to see a variety of wildlife, including plains zebras, Nubian giraffes, buffaloes, and antelope species such as elands, topis, impalas, klipspringers, Uganda kobs, and waterbucks. While the park doesn’t have elephants or lions, leopards are present and most likely to be spotted in the early morning or during a night game drive. Around midday, check in at your lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, head out for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo, where you can see hippos, Nile crocodiles, sitatunga antelopes, and a wide variety of water birds. Lake Mburo is a haven for birdwatchers, with over 310 bird species, including the rare shoebill stork, African finfoot, papyrus gonolek, and blue-headed coucal. Optional birding trails can be explored near Rwonyo Visitor Center, Rubanga Forest, or the lakeshore swamps. After the boat cruise, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight. If you're staying inside the park, you’ll have the option to join a guided night game drive, offering another chance to spot leopards and other nocturnal animals.

Day 2: Walking Safari & Return to Kampala Start your morning with a guided nature walk beginning at 7:00 a.m. This two-hour safari walk offers a more intimate encounter with the park’s wildlife. Lake Mburo is one of the few parks in Uganda where walking safaris are permitted, giving you the unique opportunity to approach animals such as giraffes, zebras, impalas, topis, and elands on foot, under the guidance of a ranger. After the walk, return to the lodge for breakfast, check out, and begin your return journey to Kampala. Along the way, stop at the Equator Monument in Kayabwe for photos and souvenirs. You’ll arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the afternoon and be dropped off at your preferred location or transferred to the airport for your departure flight.

End of your 2-day Lake Mburo safari adventure.
