1 Day Mt.Longonot Hike

Mount Longonot is a dormant stratovolcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. It rises about 2,776 meters (9,108 feet) above sea level and features a large volcanic crater approximately 8 kilometers in circumference. 05:00 AM – Depart Nairobi

Leave early to avoid traffic and enjoy the roughly 1.5 to 2-hour drive (about 90 km) to Mount Longonot National Park, located near Lake Naivasha.

07:00 AM – Arrive at Mount Longonot National Park

Register at the park gate, pay the entry fee, and meet your guide (optional but recommended for safety and insights).

07:15 AM – Begin the Hike Start the hike on the main trail leading to the rim of the volcanic crater. The trail is steep and rocky in parts, so wear sturdy hiking shoes.

08:30 AM – Reach the Crater Rim Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha, and the crater itself. Take time to rest and take photos.

08:45 AM – Hike Around the Crater Rim Follow the rim trail, which circles the crater for about 7 km. This offers varied terrain, unique volcanic features, and chances to spot wildlife such as zebras, giraffes, and baboons.

10:30 AM – Descend into the Crater Take the trail down into the crater, exploring its floor with diverse vegetation and geothermal features like fumaroles.

11:30 AM – Complete the Loop and Return to Park Entrance Finish the hike by ascending back up to the park entrance trail.

12:30 PM – Relax and Have Lunch Enjoy a packed lunch or eat at a nearby lodge or café around Lake Naivasha.

01:30 PM – Optional Visit to Lake Naivasha If time permits, consider a boat ride on Lake Naivasha to see hippos, birds, and beautiful scenery.

02:30 PM – Depart for Nairobi Start the drive back to Nairobi.

04:30 PM – Arrive in Nairobi

End of the day trip.
