About this tour

Day 1: Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala before 8:00 am for the approximately 6-7 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Along the way, enjoy stopovers at the Equator Monument in Kayabwe, where you can witness the fascinating water experiment and take photos. Continue to Mbarara city for lunch at the renowned Igongo Cultural Centre, which offers delicious local cuisine and a glimpse into Ugandan culture. After lunch, drive through scenic countryside and the Kigezi highlands before arriving at Queen Elizabeth National Park in the early afternoon. Check in at your lodge located in the northern Kasenyi plains, an excellent base for game drives. In the late afternoon, embark on your first game drive, exploring open savannahs and waterholes in search of buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise Begin your day early, with a game drive starting before sunrise. This is the best time to spot predators such as lions, leopards, and spotted hyenas, as well as large mammals including elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and hippos that frequent the waterholes along Lake George’s shores. The cooler morning hours also offer excellent opportunities for bird watching. Return to the lodge around midday for lunch and a short rest. At 2:00 pm, head to Kazinga Channel for a 3-hour boat cruise. This narrow waterway connecting Lake Edward and Lake George is renowned for its rich wildlife. From the boat, observe large herds of elephants and buffaloes coming to drink, pods of hippos wallowing in the water, Nile crocodiles basking on the banks, and over 600 bird species such as African fish eagles, Egyptian geese, and malachite kingfishers. The cruise offers spectacular views of wildlife along the water’s edge and is a highlight of the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Final Game Drive and Return to Kampala After an early breakfast, set out for your final game drive in the park, aiming to spot any wildlife you may have missed. The morning light and quieter roads often allow for excellent photographic opportunities and wildlife encounters. Return to the lodge for a full breakfast before checking out. Begin the journey back to Kampala, stopping as needed along the way. Expect to arrive in Kampala by early afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your hotel, the airport, or another preferred location. This marks the end of your 3-day Queen Elizabeth National Park safari.
